George Rollins
1773 - 10 June 1846
George Rollins married Rebecca, maiden name unknown, and they had at least five children. It is believed that George Rollins rests in the Rollins Hawkins graveyard. There are two headstones made of fieldstone, and hand chiseled with the initials "GR," which we believe stands for George Rollins, and "RR," which we believe stands for Rebecca Rollins. George Rollins died at the age of 73, which was well beyond the expected lifespan of that time. Indications are that his wife lived to the age of 78, eight years after George Rollins passed away.
We are 99% certain that George Rollins is the father of Vincent Rollins but are working to be 100% positive. We have copies of several land deeds and grants indicating adjoining land parcels in Cleveland, NC.
We believe George's father is named James Rollins. The story we've been told is that James was possibly a Tory sympathizer who was imprisoned and escaped and returned to England, abandoning his family. The story goes that Prudy Rollins, possibly James' wife, and their children were left behind, robbed of all their belongings and forced to sell a hair mattress to buy shoes for everyone.
